If you are looking to invest long-term and hold for at least a couple years then Ethereum could be one of the best investments you ever make.

If you are more risk averse you can go with Bitcoin or some combination of Bitcoin and Ethereum. Bitcoin is significantly less volatile but has less upside potential.
I would avoid Litecoin as a long-term investment. It has skyrocketed lately due to the recent implementation of Segregated Witness, but once Bitcoin solves it’s scaling issues there would be little reason to for anyone to use Litecoin. The network effect of cryptocurrency is very strong, and Litecoin is almost identical to Bitcoin but has far few users.
